Easter Hike

South Mountain, Javelina Canyon Trail & Ridgeline Trail
When Chad and I are home alone for Easter, it has become a tradition of ours to go on a hike. This year we headed up South Mountain to the Javelina Canyon & Ridgeline Trail, altogether we hiked about 5 miles. We started the journey mid-day so it was bit warm on our way in, about 88 degrees. No complaints though, it was gorgeous day. =) While hiking through the mountain preserve, we enjoyed the blooming desert flowers; we saw a Chuckwalla, which we thought, was a Gila monster, lots of small lizards (which made Chad and I jump a few times, ha), a horned Lizard and petroglyphs by the Hohokam Indians. As we headed back we opted to switch trails to the Ridgeline Trail, which provided a steeper incline and more difficult terrain, boy did the booty feel it! ha. The sun was just starting to settle and a slight breeze made it a refreshing ending until our next adventure for the day.

We returned home to a delightful smell of boneless ribs cooking in the crock-pot and ready to eat. So we enjoyed a yummy dinner and then headed off to the PHX Zoo for Zoomation. Being that the zoo is across the street and admission was free, we couldn't pass up this opportunity. Especially since Zoomation was about spring and art! Being the kids we are, Chad and I enjoyed all the art, musician and performer activities that they had set up. We even saw the Easter Bunny take a camel ride. ha! A little creepy being in the dark and all, but still fun. And to top of our Easter festivities we headed down to Mill Avenue to get an ice cream treat before calling it a night!

It was an eventful day, but Chad and I wouldn't do it any other way!! =)

Zoo photos are below...
