Southern Arizona Road Trip

A collaboration with PhD Scientist and Photographers along Desert Rivers...

I tagged along on Chad's working weekend on The Santa Cruz and San Pedro.

On the first day, we drove south of phoenix near Nogales and ventured around the research site at Rio Rico for some stream crossing, bottle collecting and photography. Once calling it for the night, we lucked out with the last open spot and camped at Patagonia Lake. And just in time to set-up our camp site, make some dinner and turn in for the evening so we could make our early morning wake-up call to head out on our 2hr drive to the next research area.

On our second day, we drove out to Lewis Springs near San Pedro Sierra Vista, collected caterpillars, photographed and hiked along the river stream before taking off to Tombstone to enjoy the old western tourist town and to eat lunch. Afterwards, we ventured off to the second site at Fairbanks near San Pedro, Whestone. Chad worked and encountered a border crosser traveling up the river from Mexico into Arizona, while I sat on the shoreline enjoying some relaxation and a good book. (Just a little strange). At dusk we headed to camp for the night at nearby Kartchner Caverns State Park. Once again, we arrived after dark but in the morning we had great views, warm showers and enjoyed the hour and a half underground Rotunda Throne Cave Tour before returning home.

May the adventures always continue... enjoy some of my random photos that I took along the way. Hopefully Chad will share his amazing photos that he took! =)

First afternoon.

Second morning.

Lunch break at Tombstone.

We were not allowed to take photos on the cave tour so here
are some I found online, it's difficult to see here but it was truly spectacular.
